Milling machines can drill holes in much larger objects, anything that can be got on the table. And if a hole larger than max recommended drill size is needed on a mill, it can still be done - drill a hole within the limits of the machine and then bore it to size. It just takes longer to do. Some confusion on the thread about motor power.
Well, still not able to get the mill I got from DeepGroove1 to work all that well. Prone to stalls. Dampers do nothing. At best, this thing "limps", and tends to stall unpredictably. The only sure safe speed seems to be like a maddeningly slow 10ipm. Being an electrical engineer, I had to dig into what this setup actually is. I found this out.

Having looked around the Major machine seems to offer a good size capability for the cost. Main concerns were if it is poorly designed like the Micro Mill where if you centre the Chuck to the Table, the Table overhangs the dovetails and offers no rigidity. Looking at the pictures this doesn't seem to be the case. Any help much appreciated.
